Somewhere along the rise of technology and productivity
We grew tired of waking with the sunrise
We traded self-sustainability for proximity
And what we are for what we have: abundance and greed

Though we compromise the world
We’re learning from our mistakes
Our consequences have raised the stakes
Everybody’s nervous or in disbelief

As it gets dark the lights stay on
The rat-race clock ticks ever on
Its creatures and this city never sleep
Constant noise bounces off of the concrete
Nature’s been driven out yet we maintain a sense of community

Though we compromise the world
We’re learning from our mistakes
The time has come to make a change
Everybody’s nervous or in disbelief
We need no saviour / We need a change of pace

This city seems so dead at night
